2020 environmental biosecurity webinars

Welcome to the 2020 environmental biosecurity webinar series.

Over the past few months, COVID-19 has dramatically changed the way we all live and work. Although this has presented some significant challenges, it has also provided an opportunity to rethink how we do many things.

In place of our 2020 face-to-face Environmental Biosecurity Roundtables we have created a monthly webinar series. This site will support the webinars as a hub for resources, links, presentations and discussions related to all the webinar topics, and anything else that you – environmental biosecurity practitioners – would like to share.

When are they?

From July to November 2020 the Chief Environmental Biosecurity Officer is hosting a webinar in the last week of each month. Each month we will explore a different theme, with 3-4 speakers each month discussing their views and involvement in environmental biosecurity. *Due to popular demand, two Phytophthora webinars have been added to the program. These will be on 13 October and 10 November and follow the same time and format of the other webinars. If you have registered for all webinars in the series on Eventbrite, you will receive a joining link to the new webinars.

How long are they?

Each webinar will involve one hour of talks (including questions) from 3-4 guest speakers, followed by half an hour of facilitated discussion for those who wish to delve deeper into the topic or have more questions to ask. While we encourage you to participate in the facilitated discussion we understand that not everyone will have time for this, and if you would prefer to listen that is fine too.

Why?

Since 2016 the Environmental Biosecurity Roundtables have provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share their projects, research and latest environmental biosecurity news, as well as being a forum for networking and collaboration. With such a vast range of activities in the environmental biosecurity space still going on it is important to keep these connections and conversations going during these challenging times.

Who?

The webinar series is for anyone who is involved in or shares a professional (or personal) interest in looking after our environment and way of life. This includes, (but is not limited to) the areas of:

  • advocacy
  • animal, plant and wildlife health
  • citizen science
  • conservation and environmental asset management
  • natural resource, pest animal and/or weed management
  • producers and landowners, and
  • research

How do I join?

We will be using Microsoft Teams which allows participants to see the speaker and their presentation, as well as asking questions and interacting (to some extent) with other participants. Microsoft teams can be viewed on a web browser, downloaded as an app on your device or listened to via telephone (if you cannot access a computer).

If you have registered in Eventbrite, you will receive a calendar invite with the Microsoft Teams webinar link and phone number. We encourage all participants to register. We will aim to have presentations and other resources uploaded to this page prior to each webinar, so those unable to join via videolink can still follow the presentations.

Say hello

We encourage you to sign the virtual guestbook below and introduce yourself. If you’re new and have never been to a roundtable, tell us a bit about why you’re here.

Share your ideas

Each webinar has its own Forum space on this page. We encourage you to go to use the Forums to dive deeper into the topics and start or contribute to a discussion about the topic. It doesn’t always have to be serious – we want you to have a bit of fun!

Resources and links

On the right hand side of this page are the programs for each webinar as they become available, and any related resources such as copies of presentations, web links or readings. Keep an eye out for updates to this page before and after each webinar to keep up to date.

If you would like to link to your webpage or any online resources that may be of interest to the group, there is a ‘General resources and other links’ section where we welcome your submission. Please send suggestions to ACEBO@awe.gov.au

You can also ‘subscribe’ to the page and receive notifications when new resources and information is added.
