In April 2020, the panel gained approval to extend consultation on the issues paper by 3 months due to COVID-19 and requests from numerous stakeholders. The extended consultation period has delayed the release of the draft report. For the panel to deliver its final report to the Minister in May 2021 all feedback must be received by the 26 February 2021. The panel will also undertake targeted consultation with key stakeholders in February 2021.

What happens next

All feedback received on the draft report will inform the final report to be delivered to the Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management in May 2021.

Background

An independent panel was appointed to review the current system and provided initial recommendations to inform a modern and fit-for purpose agvet chemicals regulatory system. An issues paper discussing the panel’s initial reflections on the system was developed and released in March 2020.

Feedback on the issues paper

From 4 March to 28 August 2020 the Panel invited your feedback on the content raised in the issues paper and sought comment on possible improvements to the regulatory system.

The Panel received feedback from:

  • Government agencies
  • Growers/producers
  • Chemical companies
  • Industry
  • Non-government organisations
  • Individuals and communities.

The Panel thanks all those who participated. The Panel considered all feedback and submissions when developing their recommendations in the draft report.
