Biosecurity Symposium

The inaugural Biosecurity Symposium, hosted by Animal Health Australia, the Invasive Species Council and the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions was held on the Gold Coast from 12-13 June 2019. Both private and public sectors were well represented with attendees from a number of domestic and international biosecurity organisations.

The key theme of the symposium was future-proofing the biosecurity system with a focus on preventative biosecurity practices, research and innovation, outside of the box thinking and the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Keynote speakers included Hugh Bradlow, the President of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, who spoke about emerging digital platforms and how they could be applied to biosecurity, and Julia Martin who shared insights into Chevron’s risk-based biosecurity management on Barrow Island. There were also a couple of headline names – Costa from Gardening Australia was the MC and Donny the detector dog joined us for a presentation on innovative training techniques.

The program and abstracts for the presentations can be found here. The event will be held again in 2021.
