The international community is coming together to develop a set of new global targets for biodiversity to be met over the next ten years.

The Australian Government has opened consultation on the CBD’s draft targets. We are seeking feedback to gain insights and ensure the process considers the views of all Australians.

Your feedback can help us ensure the new global targets are effective, appropriate, and engaging to all stakeholders.

Completing the survey will take about 20 minutes of your time. We appreciate every minute; we know you are busy.

The results of this survey will be used in developing the positions Australia takes forward into negotiation of the targets. The data collected will be used only for this process and for documenting the consultation which has occurred.

The survey will be open until 2 December 2020. A simple registration process is required in order to commence the survey.

  • The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is of great importance to Australia. The CBD guides international action on a broad range of issues that impact Australia, and provides a guiding framework which informs domestic biodiversity conservation priorities.

Over the past 10 years, implementation of the CBD has been guided by the CBD’s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the associated Aichi Biodiversity Targets. With the strategic plan and Aichi targets expiring this year, formal discussions are underway on the development of a new Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

Australia is actively engaged in this process and is committed to ensuring that the development of the new framework is participatory and inclusive. We encourage all stakeholders to provide views on the current draft framework via this survey to help us formulate and advocate Australian positions.

We will be gathering this information from 17 November to 2 December 2020. If you have any questions or any issues in responding to the survey, please contact CBDAustralia@awe.gov.au. We would encourage you to forward the link to anyone interested in answering the survey.
