Information sharing, consultation, deliberation and collaboration in rings as the different forms of engagement

Welcome, and thanks for your interest in our online engagement platform, Have Your Say.

Stakeholder engagement is an important part of our business activity. Good quality engagement is fundamental to providing informed advice to government, developing meaningful evidence-based policies, and meeting our departmental objectives.

Engagement and participation is in focus, you can read more about our future ready goals and objectives in the department's blueprint.

In line with the Australian Government's digital transformation agenda to drive innovation using digital technology, we run online stakeholder engagement activities through this platform. We aim to provide an accessible and user friendly platform for genuine consultation to complement our offline engagement activities.

Working with the Communication and Media branch

Your strategic communication team representative will work in collaboration with you to develop your Have Your Say project.

This includes a discovery session with you to help you identify and develop:

  • engagement objectives
  • key audience groups
  • milestones and timeframes
  • risks and considerations.
We will engage the appropriate areas of the Communication and Media branch as required to support design and delivery of the project.

During the engagement project, the communication account manager will:
  • coordinate your Have Your Say project
  • ensure all content meets usability guidelines set for Have Your Say platform
  • submit draft templates for content and usability review
  • manage communication materials relating to the project.

You, or your communication account manager can request ‘project administrator’ access to your Have Your Say projects. This allows access to extract analytics and reporting, or make minor updates to a project (such as the timeline or closing date).

  • Draft a welcome message. It will appear under the survey tab on the project page and at the top of the survey when launched by the user. Do not repeat the project description. Focus on the specific instructions the user needs to complete the survey.

    Example welcome message

Welcome. We invite you to share your feedback via this survey.

You can use this form to answer questions, upload a document, or both.

Before you share your feedback, read the issues paper.

Submissions close on DD Month YYYY.

    Mandatory questions

All questions can be mandatory. If a question is mandatory, participants must answer it before they can submit their response. Choose your mandatory questions carefully. You may want to make choice questions mandatory and follow up open responses not mandatory. This is less effort for the participant but still provides you with adequate responses.

    Conditional questions

You can make extra questions appear when selected options are chosen. This can only be done on radio buttons, dropdown or checkboxes. Keep this as simple as possible. Conditional questions will appear directly after the original question.
