Many thanks to the over 100 ELs who joined the discussion!  Please keep the conversation going ...

The purpose of this forum is to give EL employees the opportunity to identify topics that they would like to see covered at future events. What do you need to lead?

I completely agree - for the EL cohort it is important we get a broad range of experience - but that doesn't necessarily mean we want to leave the department permanently. It would be great if there was a way to know about these opportunities to develop our skills and experience.

Interesting article. I agree mentoring is important and that any aspiring leader should take responsibility for their own development by seeking out mentors. I'm uncomfortable with the article's suggestion that managers are thrust into these positions and expected to perform - this reads a little victimish. Someone applied for the role and was found successful. Perhaps we also need to consider the basis of these decisions. In terms of working with mentors, EL1s need to be supported in working directly with AS and FAS on their work or specific projects, rather than being excluded. This opportunity will provide valuable learning and enable EL1s to really step up. Thankyou for opportunity to comment.
