Public consultation on proposed amendments to the Export Control Rules 2021 for animals, meat, organic goods, plant, poultry, rabbit and ratite and wild game has closed.

The proposed amendments will ensure that the Rules remain fit for purpose by addressing issues that we have identified or that have been raised with us by stakeholders. This page will be updated shortly to report on the outcomes of our consultation activities.

Background

Australia’s agricultural export legislation underpins our reputation as a supplier of safe and reliable food and other products. It also assures our trading partners that Australian exports meet their requirements.

A new legal framework for agricultural exports commenced on 28 March 2021, comprising:

  • Export Control Act 2020 (the Act) which sets out the overarching legal framework for the regulation of exported goods including food and agricultural products from Australia.
  • Export Control Rules 2021 (the Rules) which are legislative instruments that set out the operational requirements that must be met to export specific goods from Australia.

We consulted on proposed changes to the Rules for animals, meat, organic goods, plant, poultry, rabbit and ratite and wild game over the period 1 November 2021 to 30 November 2021.
