Public consultation on the biosecurity awareness packages for staff at first points of entry (FPOE) is closed.
How you had your say
We invited feedback about the biosecurity awareness packages from workers, managers and owners at FPOE airports and seaports. This included:
airport and seaport authorities
fixed-base operators
berth operators
stevedores
marinas
RAAF bases
Navy bases.
You gave feedback through an online survey.
The responses to the survey will help us improve the effectiveness and usability of the biosecurity awareness packages.
Who engaged
105 people visited the project page and 17 people responded to our survey.
Of the 17 people who responded 6 were from airports (including other landing places like RAAF Bases) and 11 were from seaports.
The respondents indicated they are involved in a rage of international operations. The most common for airports was scheduled passenger flights (4 out of 6). The most common for seaports was imports of general cargo (8 out of 17).
What you said
The survey responses suggest that enhancing human biosecurity information and making the content more engaging are key things we should consider when redeveloping the biosecurity awareness packages.
Approximately 95% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they could identify biosecurity risks (16 out of 17). Approximately 70% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed they could identify human biosecurity risks (12 out of 17).
All respondents indicated that the content of the biosecurity awareness packages was easy to understand (17 out of 17). However, approximately 35% of respondents found the biosecurity awareness packages not very engaging or neutral (6 out of 17).
Other issues you raised about the biosecurity awareness packages:
There is no record confirming you have completed the package
There is no way to confirm you have learnt the package content (e.g. by completing a quiz)
It is not clear whether you only need to complete the package once, or you need to recomplete the package periodically
The packages are not in a format that can be incorporated into Learning Management Systems
Department contact details are not clear enough
New biosecurity risks should be added
What happens next
We will consider your feedback and use it to inform redevelopment of the biosecurity awareness packages.
