Improving our plant export system

We are reviewing how the Australian, state and territory governments regulate plant exports.

To improve domestic and international processes, we will:

  • identify areas of duplication
  • identify opportunities for mutual recognition
  • simplify requirements.

We want to hear from people working in the plant agriculture sector. This includes:

  • farmers
  • packhouses
  • authorised officers
  • exporters
  • registered establishments
  • treatment providers
  • transporters

Let us know what changes will save you time and reduce the costs when working across domestic and international markets.

Your feedback will help identify duplication and identify areas of improvement.

To have your say:

Industry Stories

We invite you to share your feedback in the form of a video. In addition to responses to our Have Your Say survey, we want to hear directly from the people who use the systems we regulate – you.

We want to hear your story in your own words, which will help us get more people interested in participating, more people engaged in the process and make sure the outcomes are properly representative of what industry needs.

Video Content – share only what you are comfortable sharing

We want to hear from you in your own words on what you need and where there are opportunities for improvements. However, we have provided some questions below that might help you think about what to say and present your video. These are only suggestions and should not be considered as a requirement – share what you want to share!

Who are you?

Hi I’m <Name> from <business>, We <what does your business do/in what industry> <where do you trade?>.

e.g., Hi I’m Jo Blogs, the director of Grape Exporters Co. in NSW, we produce and pack table grapes for the export trade to Korea and we supply the major supermarket chains across the country).

Who regulates you?

We currently hold registrations for <list all the state and commonwealth registrations you must hold for international and interstate trade> We also hold <list any food safety/quality assurance or supply chain standards you hold>.

e.g. We currently hold registrations on our farm for international trade, state trade and the supermarkets. These include accredited property registrations, export registered establishment registrations…. We are also certificated through HAPRS to supply the major supermarket chains>

Where is there duplication?

I see duplication across the sector….

Where can you see areas for improvements?

I’d really like to see improvement…

If you had a magic wand what would you want to see in the plant export space?

If I could improve one thing it would be…

What will the videos be used for?

The videos will be moderated by our team and displayed on the Have Your Say webpage for this survey for your industry colleagues. They may also be used on social media and/or other online platforms. We will also use the videos during our consultations with state and territory agriculture departments, to help put a human face on discussions and decisions.

Filming your video

Your video should be no more than 90 seconds in length and the following file types up to 200 MB are accepted:

  • mp4,
  • avi,
  • mpeg,
  • mov (Quicktime),
  • flv

No special equipment is required to film your video; phone cameras are fine and produce videos of good quality using the default video settings. Videos can be either selfie style or recorded by someone else, although we encourage you to find ways to keep the camera as steady as possible. If you would prefer to have a video call and have that recorded, let us know and we can make arrangements.

We also encourage you to film your video in a suitable location to make sure viewers can focus on you and your message, without distractions. The best locations are well-lit with either natural sunlight or indoor lighting (although check for shadows and silhouettes) and relatively quiet without background noise or echoes (including the sound of heaters, machinery or air conditioning).
