How you had your say

We released the draft report for limes from Mexico on 6 April 2021, for public consultation. The consultation period closed on 7 June 2021.

We considered all submissions when finalising the risk analysis.

Final report

You can read the final risk analysis report which was released on 16 May 2023 as well as our responses to stakeholder comments in Appendix B.

The final report determined that the import of limes from Mexico can be permitted, subject to a range of biosecurity requirements.

Seventeen quarantine pests and 3 regulated articles associated with Persian lime fruit are present in Mexico and need risk management measures to manage the risk to an acceptable level. Specific commercial production practices, combined with an operational system, are recommended to be made mandatory to manage the risk of these pests arriving in Australia via the lime fruit pathway.
