Public consultation on the draft Commonwealth fisheries resource sharing framework is now closed. Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We are developing a framework for sharing Australia’s Commonwealth fisheries resources.

The framework will set out the principles and approach we will use to share fisheries resources between fishing sectors. It will be applied to Commonwealth-managed fisheries. It will not impact state-managed and territory-managed fisheries.

How you had your say

We sought feedback on the draft framework from 25 August to 22 September 2020.

We received 10 responses.

The draft framework was informed by:

  • 32 responses to our discussion paper (March to May 2020). See our feedback summary and all public submissions
  • outcomes from meetings with the National Fishing Advisory Council (September 2019 and May 2020) and National Recreational Fishing Council (May 2020)
  • face-to-face meetings with stakeholders
  • 62 responses to our online survey (September to October 2019).

Next steps

Your feedback will inform the final resource sharing framework. We expect to release the final framework by the end of 2020.
