Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Held in Sydney, Australia from 3-4 March 2020.

The arrival and spread of contaminating pests has many short and long-term consequences. These pests can affect industry, land use and the community.

Such pests are a global issue recognised by the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures. They are finalising their recommendations on how to facilitate safe trade by reducing rates of contaminating pests in traded goods.

Aims of the symposium

  • To raise awareness about the global spread of contaminant pests on goods and conveyances. This includes their effect on production and community spaces.
  • To highlight how industry and international governments are limiting the spread of contaminant pests. This includes lessons learnt.
  • To allow industry and government to discuss improved container hygiene and pathway management.
  • To encourage global stewardship for clean trade and collaboration. For stakeholders involved at national, regional and global levels.
  • To explore non-regulatory commercial solutions. These will help prevent contaminant pests spreading and establishing.
